Cara Information Systems Ltd. started in 1976 developing MRP software for Data General computers. Later that software was converted to run on a line of Texas Instruments mini computers for which Cara was the first western Canadian distributor. Even so we were a canadian distributor, Cara’s clients existed mostly throughout the USA.

The natural progression for Cara’s MRP software was the move to Unix based server and later Linux based servers. Using Linux based servers and postgreSQL Open Source database we developed a Windows® based Actium ERP and many custom software solutions such as electronic medical records, call centre software and other large and small scale projects.

Call Center

Ten years ago, Cara Information Systems Ltd. was approached by one of the oldest global direct marketing company selling walk in bath tubs to develop a database to track appointment leads for Canada and the US. Ten years later, the database has turned into a complete call center software.

As well as tracking leads, the call center software allows for sales appointments to be scheduled and relayed to the sales teams. Successes are tracked for daily reporting and planning. Based on sales information tracked through the system, advertising campaigns are scheduled and effects and ROI of the campaings are monitored. After a successful sale, contract information and scanned documents are available for all branch offices to use and review.

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

Cara has developed a complete electronic medical records system for general practioners. This includes scanning of hard copy medical records and most importantly, it allows for lab results to be electronically transfered to the clinic. Physicians are notified of available lab results which are electronically signed by the doctor. The results then become immediately available in the patient’s chart.

The billing module allows for electronic billing to MSP (Medical service Plan of British Columbia) and to WorkSafe BC. Third party billing to individuals, Medical Insurance Providers as well as police force and government agencies is also provided.

Scheduling for all patients and doctors is also integrated. The EMR software is currently in use with great success by single physician offices and larger clinics with more than 18 physicians, specialists and all the required clinical staff
